We're amazed we've been accepted into the participant pool for the Shitbox Rally 2027. Finding a $1,500-or-less Shitbox has been ticked off. Making it ready for a 7,000km round trip is another thing altogether. We're sorting the car ourselves and raising an additional $5,000 for the Cancer Council of Australia.

Cancer survival is a topic very close to our hearts. And Cancer Council Australia really is at the forefront of research, prevention, early detection programs and vital support services for those of us who are diagnosed.

So we're driving from Cairns to Darwin (and back) across time zones on mostly unsealed roads in the tropical north of Australia. It's daunting in truth. The distances between places are vast. We're hoping to travel the same distance as Cape Town, South Africa to Addis Abibba in Ethiopia. Or New York to San Francisco and halfway back again on roads that will eliminate even Toyota 4X4s.

Every participating team is required to raise a minimum of $5,000. Every single dollar raised goes directly to Cancer Council Australia. Your support, whether big or small, will have a real impact.

They're doing what!?

Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.

Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.

The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.

And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.

This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
