We're thrilled to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2027 - Winter! We’ll be hitting the road in our $1,500-or-less Shitbox, driving from Cairns to Darwin on an unforgettable 7-day adventure. It’s not just about the drive—it’s about making a real difference in the fight against cancer.
Every participating team is required to raise a minimum of $5,000. Every dollar raised goes directly to Cancer Council and helps fund vital cancer research, which is why we’re doing everything we can to hit our goal.
We're Andrew Ly and Benny Chan, and unfortunately cancer is something that's affected both of our families, having each lost someone close to us. So being able to raise money for cancer research while doing something completely ridiculous together felt like a pretty good reason to get involved.
Then there's the adventure itself. Cairns to Darwin is a long way in any car, let alone one we've paid $1,500 or less for! We're looking forward to seeing parts of Australia that we probably wouldn't otherwise get the chance to visit, while hopefully having a bloody good time along the way.
As for the car, we're still searching for the perfect piece of automotive questionable decision-making. We're looking for something manual, preferably turbocharged and suitably quirky. The challenge is finding something cheap enough to qualify, interesting enough to be fun, and reliable enough to actually make it to Darwin.
We're also cooking up a few ideas to raise some extra money before we hit the road. Nothing is locked in just yet, but we're hoping to come up with some suitably stupid ways to put the shitbox to work and give people another reason to throw a few dollars our way. We're also open to suggestions if you have any!

Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
