We’re Kosie and Jannie, two farm boys, originally from South Africa who somehow ended up calling Australia home. Now we’ve decided that driving a 36-year-old Volkswagen from Cairns to Darwin is a perfectly sensible way to spend a week.
Welcome to Team Agri-gators! 🐊
In Winter 2027, we’ll be taking on the Shitbox Rally, heading into Croc Country for a gruelling (and hopefully hilarious) 7-day adventure from Cairns to Darwin.
Our vehicle of choice? A 1990 VW Caravelle — a $1,500 Shitbox with more character than horsepower and approximately zero chance of winning any beauty contest. But hey, it’s a Volkswagen, so we’re told it was engineered for adventure. We’re choosing to believe that.
But this isn’t really about the car, the dust, the corrugations, the breakdowns or arguing over which way the map is pointing.
It’s about cancer.
Every Shitbox Rally team is required to raise at least $5,000, with every dollar raised going directly to Cancer Council to support vital cancer research.
Cancer has touched far too many families, friends and communities, and we’re proud to do our bit to help fund the research that can make a difference for generations to come.
So, while we’re hoping our old VW survives the journey, the real goal is to make sure our fundraising does.
🎯 Our target: $5,500
Whether you donate $5, $50 or $500, every dollar counts. And if you can’t donate, sharing our fundraising page with someone who might be able to help is just as valuable.
Help two farm boys, one very questionable Volkswagen and a team with a slightly unhealthy fascination with crocodiles raise as much as we possibly can for cancer research.
Support Team Agri-gators.
Because getting from Cairns to Darwin in a $1,500 Shitbox might be questionable…
but raising money to fight cancer is definitely worth the drive. 🐊❤️
Thank you for your support — and wish us luck. We’re going to need it!
Agri-Gators are driving a $1,500 car from Cairns to Darwin to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
Directly to Cancer Council.
Box Rallies is the largest funder of cancer research in Australia — outside of the government. Every dollar supports Cancer Council.
