Cairns to Darwin. One suspect Saab. One big cause.
We’re 2 Guys One Coupe — Sam & Josh, and in Winter 2027 we’re taking a 1999 Saab convertible from Cairns to Darwin as part of the Shitbox Rally.
Why a Saab?
Honestly… we’re still asking ourselves that.
We bought the car sight unseen, because apparently that seemed like a good idea at the time. Now we’re trusting a 1999 convertible to survive roughly 3,000 km of northern Australia, with two blokes who probably have more confidence than mechanical sense.
But there’s a serious reason behind the stupidity.
Why we’re doing it
We’re taking on this challenge to raise money for Cancer Council and to support families affected by cancer.
Cancer has taken people we love from us, and we know firsthand how much it can affect an entire family.
We’re doing this for the family we’ve lost, the memories we’ll always carry, and the families still fighting against it.
So while the car, the route and some of our decisions might be questionable, the reason behind it isn’t.
The adventure
Our route will take us from:
Cairns → Musgrave → Karumba → Hell’s Gate Roadhouse → King Ash Bay → Mataranka → Jabiru → Darwin
Seven days. Around 3,000 km. One very shit Saab.
There will be dust, heat, breakdowns, dodgy roadside repairs and plenty of moments where we wonder why we volunteered for this.
But hopefully there’ll also be plenty of laughs, great memories and a whole lot of money raised for a cause that means a lot to us.
Our goal
$5,000
Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us get closer to our goal.
If you’ve ever wanted to support two blokes making subpar decisions in an even more subpar car — this is your chance.
And if you don’t want to donate, sharing our page is just as valuable. The more people who see our journey, the more people we can reach for this important cause.
Follow the journey
We’ll be sharing the build-up, the preparation, the highs, the lows and hopefully the moment this thing rolls into Darwin.
Driven by memories. Fuelled by hope. Under powered by a Saab. No roof, No worries.
Thanks for getting behind 2 Guys One Coupe and helping us make a difference.

2 Guys One Coupe
2 guys one coupe are driving a $1,500 car from Cairns to Darwin to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
Directly to Cancer Council.
Box Rallies is the largest funder of cancer research in Australia — outside of the government. Every dollar supports Cancer Council.
